EYEGLASSES FOR STUDENTS
Each year, too many students can't learn to their potential because their eyesight is compromised in some way and the family can't afford to get quality eye care and appropriate eyeglasses. Often, we discover these students and their unmet needs through an annual vision screening offered to students in selected grades, in partnership with the Lions Club of Eastern Idaho. Interested families can contact the building principal to learn if they qualify for this program.
The Eyeglasses for Students is supported by Silverstar & TSD #401. TVEF will continue to grow the fund to meet the needs of students in future years.
To Receive Support
- Fund is open to preK-12 students who qualify for free and reduced lunch but do not have insurance through Idaho Medicaid. Students may only receive one pair of glasses per calendar year through this program. (Principals may recommend a waiver, if there are extenuating circumstances.)
- Teacher or Specialist recommends to the school principal a student they believe needs eye care.
- Principals must request a voucher from TVEF (can be done through email).
- Qualified students will be given a voucher by their school principal to take to an optometrist of their choice that is participating in the program.
- Students must use the voucher within 30 days from the date of issue.
- Optometrist will send to TVEF the student’s voucher and reimbursement form for the materials and labor required to make the appropriate eye wear.
- TVEF will send participating optometrist payment within 30 days.
Expectations of Participating Optometrist
- Optometrist will provide high quality care to student and family.
- Optometrist will provide necessary eye exams as a donation to the program.
- Optometrist will offer students a selection of frames, suitable for student prescription and offered within the Eyeglasses for Students program. Not all frames on display are available.
- Optometrist will offer a one-year warranty on breakage.
- Optometrist may charge a nominal fee directly to the student to replace lost glasses.
