I am a retired Special Education teacher and administrator with over 30 years of experience in the field, both in Pennsylvania and Montana. I hold a Master's Degree in Special Education from the University of Pittsburgh, and currently work as a consultant in Special Education for the Wyoming Department of Education and for the Technical Assistance for Excellence in Special Education Center (TAESE) at Utah State University, serving school districts in New Mexico. I was attracted to the Teton Valley Education Foundation through my identification with its mission to support excellence in education in the Teton Valley. I believe the Foundation supports this mission through its advocacy, financial support and celebration of educators in our public schools who are actively involved in advancing excellence through their efforts. My wife, Lyn Christian, and I have been residents of Teton Valley since 2007 and this is my second year serving on the board of the Foundation.

I moved to Teton Valley from Fairhope, Alabama, with my husband and two boys in 2005. Having been involved with an education foundation in Alabama, I wanted to continue to pursue my passion for quality education. I believe that support for students, teachers and administrators is essential for providing quality education and building strong communities. I am a graduate of Radford University with a B.S. in Sociology and Anthropology and am the Children and Family Ministries Coordinator at St. John's Episcopal Church in Jackson, Wyoming.

I believe community support and involvement is a driving force in creating excellence in education in Teton Valley. As a teacher in Teton School District #401, I have seen a strong relationship build between TVEF and the public schools - a relationship that continues to grow and strengthen each year. I believe TVEF best supports Teton Valley's public schools through funding the teacher grant program and creating community awareness about projects and programs that support the schools, such as the literacy tutor and volunteer programs.

Having two children in the education system caused me to look very closely at the need that our local school district had for support and TVEF gives me the chance to help to the best of my ability. The two areas that I feel TVEF supports the excellence of our education is through financial support of the teacher grant program and the raising of overall awareness needed here in the community. I work within the banking industry here locally but my most important roles are that of a husband and a father.

I pursued TVEF board membership as a way to give back to the school system and community that has shown so much kindness and generosity since moving here a few years ago. As a science teacher at Teton High School, I hope to offer insight and experience directly related to the education of children in our valley. I am excited to work for an organization that acts as a catalyst for educational and academic excellence by providing funding and publicity to inspirational organizations and individuals.

As a trustee for Teton County School District #401, I serve as the school board representative to TVEF. The Foundation has done a tremendous job in supporting the educational system in the community. We are a stronger, better educated community because of the Foundation. In the community I have tried to be a supporter of the youth in one way or another. My husband and I have always believed and tried to make it a living statement that it does take a village to raise a child.

I am a member of the TVEF board because it provides an avenue to directly interact with parent and community volunteers, that are dedicated to improving education for all students in our schools. I believe TVEF best supports excellence in education by funding projects, field trips, activities and events like Expedition Yellowstone, Space Camp, Shakespeare, Junior Engineering, and many others, that enhance a diverse, well-rounded and often times out-of-classroom experience for our students. My role in the community is first as a parent and family member, second as an educator, third as one that was raised here, "escaped to see that world", then made the great choice to come home to raise my family. There are wonderful places to live and work, but one only needs to travel to other cities, out of state, and hopefully on occasion to another country, to appreciate what a tremendous community Teton Valley really is.

As a former educator, I believe ALL students should have access to quality, innovative public education. TVEF is the best vehicle I've found where our community - through exciting, creative grants to teachers, funding of special events and excursions, and our volunteer program - can make a lasting, tangible difference in education in Teton County. I'm parent to a special-needs student, and I own a small gardening business.

I was an educator first and have always been concerned about public education. I am very proud of what TVEF has accomplished and love that it creates collaboration between administrators, teacher, community members and parents. I believe that you have to be active in all facets of the community. I've always been involved with my two sons and their experiences in this school district. I am a physical therapist and owner of High Peaks Physical Therapy, Health and Fitness.

I became motivated to get involved in education after the birth of my son to help ensure he and other young children have great educational opportunities. TVEF is another outlet for community members to offer another voice on what we think is good for our children. I've lived in Teton Valley for 10 years and part of a women-owned small business and member of the professional community.

I believe you "gotta do something." My mother was a teacher and this organization is dedicated to helping teachers with their classes. TVEF facilitates great ideas from teachers to help students learn. I like that we can respond quickly and directly to the teachers' needs. My parents moved to Teton Valley in 1993 and in 2007 my wife and I moved here full time when I retired from Paramount Television.

My husband and I chose Teton Valley to be our home and to raise a family because we believe it to be a very special place. I joined TVEF in hopes of raising the community's awareness of our public schools and the importance of a quality education for every child in the valley. I believe communities working together demanding changes locally will in turn lead to higher expectations in education on a national level. TVEF has been incredibly successful in working towards making our schools the center of our community and valuing the education of each and every child. I am proud to be a part of this organization and serve its mission to promote excellence in education.
